Italian soprano Raffaella Milanesi completed her studies in her hometown, Rome, at Santa Cecilia National Academy in 1997.


Since then she has sung many different roles including Ottavia in Monteverdi’s Incoronazione di Poppea, Cleopatra in Händel’s Giulio Cesare, Silvia in Haydn’s L’isola disabitata and Euridice in L’anima del filosofo, Elettra in Mozart’s Idomeneo, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Tamiri and Aminta in Il Re Pastore and Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito, Norina in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale and Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème.


Besides being a regular guest at the opera houses of Amsterdam, Antwerp, Bordeaux, Brussels, Lausanne, Luxembourg, Madrid, Montpellier, Paris, Salamanca, Toulouse and Vienna, she has sung at the festivals of Ambronay, Beaune, Eisenstadt, Innsbruck, Montpellier, Potsdam and Schwetzingen. She is regularly invited to perform solo recitals with a series of ensembles at Vienna Konzerthaus, L’Auditori in Barcelona, the Munich Prinzregententheater, the Rudolphinum in Prague and Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome. At the Theater an der Wien she sang Aristea in Pergolesi’s L’Olimpiade, Stellidaura in Provenzale’s La Stellidaura Vendicante and Megacle in Mysliveček’s L’Olimpiade.


In the course of her career she has worked with distinguished conductors such as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Fabio Biondi, Giuliano Carella, Ottavio Dantone, Ádám Fischer, Nicola Luisotti, Alessandro de Marchi, Andrea Marcon, Enrique Mazzola, Marc Minkowski, Christoph Poppen, Donato Renzetti, Hervé Niquet, Philippe Pierlot, Christophe Rousset, Jordi Savall, Andreas Spering and stage directors of the likes of Daniele Abbado, Karl-Ernst and Ursel Hermann, Christof Loy, Pier Luigi Pizzi, and Robert Wilson.


Recently the Scala di Milano invited Ms. Milanesi to perform on two occasions in its new production of the Monteverdian trilogy directed by Rinaldo Alessandrini and Robert Wilson. Under the baton of David Stern, she sang the role of Sifare in Mozart’s Mitridate, re di Ponto in Drottningholm Palace (Sweden), and in December 2015 she sang the title role in Handel’s Alcina at Shanghai Symphony Hall.


Among other engagements in 2016, Raffaela sings Mozart arias with Bernhard Forck and the Dresden Philharmonic, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas with Fabio Bonizzoni and La Risonanza, and Handel’s Il delirio amoroso with Václav Luks and Collegium 1704. 


Her discography includes: Il Re Pastore (Tamiri), Idomeneo (Elettra) and La Clemenza di Tito (Annio) with Ádám Fischer and Danish Radio Sinfonietta; Handel’s Italian Cantatas with Fabio Bonizzoni (for the Glossa label); Scarlatti’s Tolomeo e Alessandro (Alessandro) with Alan Curtis (for Deutsche Grammophon); Vivaldi cantatas with Accademia Ottoboni (for Stradivarius); Il Teuzzone (Zidiana) by Vivaldi with Jordi Savall (for Naïve/Grammy Award 2014), and Gluck’s La Clemenza di Tito (Sesto) with Werner Erhardt (for Deutsche Harmonia Mundi/Diapason D’or).
